Principles

PrinciplesIt takes more than narrative flair to devise a communications strategy or write a good story. What really matters is understanding challenges, creating ambitious yet realistic goals, and preparing for scenarios—both welcome and unwelcome—that might unfold along the way.

When you work with me, here’s what happens:

I ask key questions, and then listen very carefully to your answers. At the start of the process, we’ll talk about what you want to achieve, and how you’d like to make it happen. If you’re a business owner or organization representative, I’ll ask you about your history, milestones, setbacks, competition, and long-term strategic plan. If you’re an editor, we’ll establish a review process, discuss sources, and confirm deadlines. This dialogue between us will continue over time, evolving in vital ways.

I develop a thoughtful, comprehensive plan. After we talk, I’ll do as much planning, legwork, and research as possible. I’ll craft a detailed approach and timeline, and will present it to you for approval. Then I’ll roll up my sleeves and get to work.

I become your ambassador, representing your organization passionately, responsibly, sensitively, and professionally. When we decide to work as a team, I adopt your mission as my own. I will create a voice for your organization that is authoritative and polished, yet personal and inviting.

I always respond quickly to critical requests. Sure, we try to plan ahead, but the name of this game is acting (and sometimes reacting) quickly. I respect and honor urgent requests and tight deadlines. As my client, you’ll always know how to find me fast.

I laugh. Never at you, but often—I hope—with you. Humor, like a sudden, cool rain shower on a sweltering day, invigorates the psyche and unleashes the imagination.

I pay attention to details. Reliability is key. Facts matter.

I measure progress. Using metrics tools as well as human touchstones, I will analyze effectiveness, examine perceptions, and gauge results. If strategy adjustments are needed, I’ll tell you why.

I am a journalist and a PR person, but NEVER on the same project. When writing as a journalist for independent publications, I maintain the highest professional and ethical standards.

I help you achieve your goals. Whether it’s building your brand, producing quality content, capturing positive media and public attention, or directing a signature event, I will work with you to deliver the results you want.
